Ex-NCT Lucas fails to debut as a soloist? China once again attacks with fake news

China once again attacked Korean artists with fake news that crossed the line

On March 18th, the Chinese portal Sohu.com reported, “SM Entertainment (hereafter SM) announced the cancellation of former NCT member Lucas’s solo debut and the closure of his SNS channels. However, Lucas posted teaser posters for his solo activities, dispelling the rumors.

The mentioned public announcement from SM was written in three languages: Korean, Chinese and English. It stated that all of Lucas’s SNS channels would be operated until 6 PM on March 20th before being closed, and expressed gratitude to fans who supported Lucas’s debut.

At first glance, it seems plausible, but it’s actually a cleverly crafted fake announcement. Everything, from the tone and format, is slightly different from SM’s official announcements. Nevertheless, major Chinese portal sites were deceived by the fake rumors and reported as if SM had indeed canceled Lucas’s solo debut, intentionally causing confusion.

China’s attacks on Korean stars and content are becoming increasingly severe.

Recently, there was controversy regarding the actors, including Kim Go-eun, in the movie “Exhuma”, who were baselessly criticized for writing Chinese characters on their faces. There have also been criticisms of items such as IVE Jang Won-young’s phoenix hairpin, BTS’s speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, as well as rumors and defamation against BLACKPINK, NewJeans, IU and others.

And now, even Lucas, who is from Hong Kong and of Chinese descent, is being attacked, causing furrowed brows among global fans.

Regardless of China’s inexplicable provocation, Lucas continues to vigorously prepare for his solo debut.

According to the scheduler released on March 18th, Lucas will sequentially release teaser images from March 26th to 29th, followed by the opening of track poster and music video teaser on March 30th and 31st. Then, on April 1st, he will release his first solo single “Renegade”. This album will include a total of three English songs, including the rock-based hip-hop genre title track “Renegade”.
