“Dae Jang Geum” writer “No connection between ‘The Righteous Woman, Dae Jang Geum’ and the 2003 work”
On the afternoon of Feb 5th, the drama production company KPJ officially stated, “There’s no connection between the drama ‘The Righteous Woman, Dae Jang Geum’, reportedly being produced by Fantagio, and writer Kim Young-hyun. Writer Kim Young-hyun learned about the production of ‘The Righteous Woman, Dae Jang Geum’ only through media reports.“
They emphasized, “MBC’s drama ‘Dae Jang Geum’, which aired in 2003, is an original creation by writer Kim Young-hyun, so she holds all the rights to the content of the script as the original author, including the settings of the main characters, the relationships between characters, the development of events and episodes.”
They added, “Regarding ‘The Righteous Woman, Dae Jang Geum’, it’s a drama unrelated to writer Kim Young-hyun. It has no connection to the settings, content or characters of MBC’s 2003 drama ‘Dae Jang Geum’. It’s not a spin-off, sequel or prequel based on ‘Dae Jang Geum’. We also speculate that it’s a completely different drama. We urge that misunderstandings regarding this matter be avoided.”
Previously, on Jan 30th, Fantagio announced that they had finalized the casting of Lee Young-ae as the lead actress for the grand historical drama “The Righteous Woman, Dae Jang Geum”, which aims to start filming in October, and had also finalized the contract with the drama’s writer.
