“The White Lotus”, a HBO series starring BLACKPINK’s Lisa, is already facing intense criticisms after its first teaser.
On August 5 (KST), HBO dropped a teaser and several still cuts for the 3rd season of its drama series “The White Lotus”, which will feature BLACKPINK’s Lisa.
While Lisa has yet to make an appearance in this new teaser, anticipation is already sky-high. However, along with expectations, “The White Lotus” is currently faced with intense backlash.
In particular, it can be seen that the new teaser for “The White Lotus” boasts a glaring yellow filter – a hue often used by Hollywood to portray “third-world countries” and is said to carry discriminatory implications.
As the new season is set in Thailand, the use of this yellow filter has played right into the trope of depicting this country as “underdeveloped” and even “dirty”.
This results in various netizens complaining about the color grading, calling out HBO with various posts on SNS platforms such as Twitter.
At the same time, some remain positive and express hope that the filter won’t be used in the actual series itself.
