BLACKPINK’s Jennie Reflects on Being an “Older Idol” in the Industry

BLACKPINK’s Jennie recently shared her candid reflections on navigating the age gap between her and the younger generation of idols.

As BLACKPINK enters their 8th year of debut, they continue to thrive in the K-pop scene, but Jennie admits to feeling the shifts within the industry.

Speaking on “Apartment 404”, she opened up about what it’s like to be older than many of her fellow idols of the new generations.

During the conversation with Yoo Jae Suk, when he mistakenly mentioned her as being 29, Jennie promptly corrected him, clarifying that she had just turned 27. Their exchange led to a light-hearted moment where Yoo Jae Suk teased about age sensitivity in the entertainment scene, prompting Jennie to explain her quick correction.

Jennie confessed that adjusting to her newfound status as one of the “older idols” has been surreal, especially considering the significant age difference between her and the younger generation of idols.

Reflecting on her return to Korea after spending time working abroad, Jennie expressed how she suddenly found herself in the position of being a sunbae (senior) among her peers in the industry.

She admitted to struggling to acclimate to this role reversal, particularly with many idols being around 7 years younger than her.
