BLACKPINK topped the iTunes charts in 54 countries, rave reviews from foreign media 

BLACKPINK’s 2nd full album “BORN PINK” is dominating the global charts and receiving explosive response from music fans around the world.

According to YG Entertainment on September 17th, BLACKPINK’s title song “Shut Down” from their 2nd full album “BORN PINK”, which was released at 1PM (KST) a day before, has topped the iTunes song charts in a total of 43 countries. The song has topped the iTunes Worldwide Chart, boasting an even distribution of popularity in North and South America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia.

BLACKPINK’s distinct presence, which has expanded beyond Kpop to the entire world, has been confirmed once again. The girl group’s new album peaked by topping the iTunes Album Chart in 54 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, and succeeded to reigned on the Apple Music’s album chart in 60 nations. 

In addition, “Shut Down” and other b-sides of “Born Pink” have been doing exceptionally well on QQ Music, the largest music site in China, and on the Japanese music platform Line Music, creating a “line up” on the top spots of rankings.

In addition, influential foreign media such as US Billboard, LA Times, British Rolling Stone, and NME, have written rave reviews about “BORN PINK”. For example, the LA Times praised, “BLACKPINK once again created a new wave”, while NME had good words about BLACKPINK’s new music video, saying, “The fierce new visual, set in between a sleek white garage and a city after hours, sees BLACKPINK confidently recounting their successes as a musical act” and “There are also callbacks to scenes from the girl group’s past music videos like ‘Boombayah’, ‘Whistle’, and ‘Kill This Love’.”

On top of these, “BORN PINK” also reported great results on domestic charts, with the title “Shut Down” going straight to No.1 in Bugs, Vibe, and Genie after release. The song has also entered top 100 in Melon – which is calculated based on 24-hour usage and real-time user count, and is topping the real-time chart and boasting a rapid upward trend.

In addition, starting with the title song “Shut Down” and the pre-release single “Pink Venom”, all the songs in the album are receiving attention as they are loved by fans. In fact, “Typa Girl”, “Yeah Yeah Yeah’, “Hard to Love”, “The Happiest Girl”, “Tally”, and “Ready For Love” have all been landing high on domestic charts, providing a glimpse into the listeners’ extraordinary trust toward BLACKPINK’s music.

BLACKPINK also once again proves their title as the “YouTube Queen”, with noteworthy popularity regarding their new MV. In particular, the music video for “Shut Down” surpassed 44 million views in about 18 hours after its release, ranking first on YouTube’s “Most Viewed Videos in 24 Hours”. Blackpink’s official YouTube channel has experienced a sharp increase in subscribers since “Shut Down” release, surpassing 81.2 million.

Blackpink’s popularity boom was already predicted. The physical album of “BORN PINK” surpassed 2 million pre-orders early, breaking the record for a single album by a K-pop female artist, and at the same time securing the first “double million seller” title for a K-pop girl group.
