BLACKPINK’s first achievements for 2nd full album’s title track “Shut Down”

BLACKPINK set new records with “Shut Down”.

After the success of the pre-release single “Pink Venom”, at 1PM KST on September 16, BLACKPINK officially dropped the 2nd full album “BORN PINK” featuring the title track “Shut Down”. Within just a few hours after release, “Shut Down” has helped BLACKPINK bag various new achievements.

Immediately after it was released, “Shut Down” climbed to the top of MelOn 5 Minute chart. The song debuted at #1 on Bugs, #4 on Genie and #7 on MelOn after an hour. “Shut Down” recorded 10.9 thousand likes and reached 16,061 Unique Listeners in the first hour on MelOn.

The MV for “Shut Down” reached more than 1.3 million views during its premiere, sadly not being able to break BLACKPINK’s previous record set by “Pink Venom” with more than 2.3 million premiere views. After an hour, “Shut Down” MV earned 7.1 million views and exceeded 1 million likes in an hour and 20 minutes. Meanwhile, “Pink Venom” MV reached 10 million views after only 52 minutes of release.

The album “BORN PINK” set a new record on Ktown4u by recording 900,000 pre-order copies, making it the best-selling album in Ktown4u history. “BORN PINK” also debuted at #83 on the UK iTunes Albums chart and #16 on the US iTunes chart.

The MV teaser for “Shut Down” also gained many great achievements within 24 hours of release. It reached 1 million views in the first 17 minutes and has now crossed 17 million views and 2.4 million likes on YouTube.

“Shut Down” is a classic hip-hop song that samples Niccolò Paganini’s classical piece “La Campanella” and emphasizes BLACKPINK’s own music colors. From props, outfits to melody, “Shut Down” MV is a feast to both the eyes and ears. BLACKPINK also pays homage to the MVs of their previous iconic title tracks, making fans feel nostalgic. In particular, BLACKPINK was also credited in “BORN PINK” as a creative director.

Following the release of “BORN PINK”, BLACKPINK is going on a large-scale world tour this October. Fans all around the world are excited to see BLACKPINK perform the new songs from their 2nd full album for the first time.
