Kwak Dong-yeon

– You have played many complex characters. Do you feel your strengths shine in characters that can freely express various spectrums?

▶ Personally, I seem to prefer characters with complexity. Rather than depicting one distinct characteristic, I find it more enjoyable to portray characters who change and discover different values as they run towards something they want. I want to broaden my range by portraying various types of characters in the future.

– You were also a hot topic as an “Ask Me Anything (AMA) Expert” on SNS.

▶ I retired from “AMA”. I didn’t expect it to spread this widely. I started to get scared. (Laugh) I wondered if I could surpass the previous AMAs and make a better follow-up. I enjoyed it at the time. I still like humor and wordplay, but I doubted myself about sharing it in an open space where everyone can see it. I found it difficult to fully enjoy.

– Fans might feel disappointed.

▶ It’s possible, but there are still many ways to communicate with fans.

– Looking back on your 13-year career, how do you feel?

▶ People remember me differently depending on the work. Some people may not know me at all, but it’s satisfying and grateful to think, “The characters I’ve played haven’t lost their vitality and disappeared” and “There is a character engraved in someone’s heart among them.”

– What kind of work do you want to do in the future?

Kwak Dong-yeon

▶ It could be action or thriller, but it seems to always reflect personal preferences. Since the family story was quite central this time, the power that the story gave was quite strong. If I go deeper into this aspect, I think there is a lot to do in terms of acting.
