AOA Chanmi shed tears while revealing an anecdote related to her mother, Director Lim Chun-sook.
Director Lim Chun-sook appeared as a guest on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block“, which aired on June 15th.
On this day, Chanmi‘s mother Lim Chun-sook, the director of a beauty salon, appeared. Yoo Jae-suk introduced, “She’s Director Lim Chun-sook, who embraces wandering children with a warm heart.”
Yoo Jae-suk said, “She’s AOA Chanmi’s mother. Chanmi came together with her. We met and greeted each other after a long time.” Chanmi revealed her recent status, “I’m practicing plays because I want to try this area. I go to work at Daehak-ro every day.”
Yoo Jae-suk went on to say, “I heard your beauty salon is famous as a shelter for teenagers. When children come to the hair salon, you not only cut their hair but also prepare food for them.” Director Lim Chun-sook explained, “I cook rice and side dishes for them, but they cook ramen by themselves.”
Director Lim Chun-sook recalled, “Children come here mostly because they have nowhere to go once they come out. Their parents don’t get along well or they go through bad things. They ask me to let them stay for a while. That’s how it starts.“
Yoo Jae-suk asked, “I heard you tell them a lot about your childhood.” Director Lim Chun-sook replied, “If there are children who have been bullied, I’d say that I never ate lunch with my friends until I graduated from school either. At the time, there was no word called ‘bullying’, but that was bullying. I think someone should be on their side. I used to rank 68th out of 70 students. When we were young, if we were bad at studying, adults would say, ‘You’re stupid.’ They said that a lot. I really thought I was stupid. No, I wasn’t. I tell children, ‘If you find something you like, you can study about it. Let’s find what you like.'”
Yoo Jae-suk admired, “I heard that you took care of runaway children.” Director Lim Chun-sook shared, “If you run away from home, you don’t have money, right? If someone feeds them, they feel warm and psychologically comfortable, so they won’t do bad things. If you soothe and ask them, they’ll give you their parents’ contact information. I send their parents a text message, ‘Your child is here, but don’t worry. I’ll comfort him/her.’ Then runaway children go home.”
Jo Se-ho said, “In Chanmi’s childhood memories, her mother’s beauty salon must have been a new landscape.” Chanmi confessed, “I thought all other beauty salons were like this. I found out too late that my house was different after I left home.”
Yoo Jae-suk wondered, “How do you feel after hearing your mother’s story?” Chanmi answered, “I didn’t know this in detail. I didn’t even know my mom had a side job. I’m too busy doing my own things and taking care of myself. I’m sorry about that.”
In particular, Director Lim Chun-sook talked about Chanmi’s trainee life, “At first, I was very opposed to it. She knew it was her last chance, so she worked really hard. She only slept for 2~3 hours.“
Chanmi said, “I thought about making money early. I thought I should make money quickly to help my family. Didn’t the opportunity come? I went through my trainee days in a small house. I could feel everyone’s lives were being gathered in the direction I was in. I thought it couldn’t last long. For me, at least 2~3 years. I thought, ‘If I can’t debut within that time, it’s over.’ I thought I had to make it.“
She continued, “About the year before last, I was so confused that I told my mom, ‘Should I just stop?‘ My mom said, “Then stop. If Chanmi isn’t happy and wants to stop, you should stop.’ I told her, ‘I’ve never made money from anything other than this. If I quit, I don’t know what to do and how to make a living.’ She said, ‘Come to my beauty salon and help me then.‘”
Chanmi said in tears, “That gave me a lot of strength. It made me think, ‘I can quit whenever I want, so I have to try a little more.’ I’m thankful to my mom. Thank you for letting me know that I don’t have to endure.”
