Ahn Eun Jin praised for her acting in first historical series “My Dearest”, her third consecutive hit dramas
Actress Ahn Eun Jin has achieved three successful dramas in a row.
Rising to stardom after starring in tvN’s “Hospital Playlist” series in 2020 and 2021, Ahn Eun Jin appeared in JTBC’s “The Good Bad Mother” and helped the drama achieve a high rating of 12%. Most recently, her ongoing Fri-Sat drama “My Dearest” also surpassed 10%.
“My Dearest”, in which Ahn Eun Jin works alongside Nam Goong Min, is a historical drama set during the Qing Invasion of Joseon in 1636. Unlike other historical dramas that depict stories centering on the royal families, “My Dearest” focuses on ordinary people enduring the pain of war through the main characters Lee Jang Hyun (Nam Goong Min) and Yoo Gil Chae (Ahn Eun Jin).
At the beginning of the drama, Ahn Eun Jin’s character is portrayed as an immature young lady who gets entangled with Nam Goong Min’s character. Although this is her first historical drama challenge, Ahn Eun Jin took on a character that is rarely seen in traditional historical works. Therefore, some viewers raised concerns about a miscast.
However, as the story of war begins to unveil in episode 3, Ahn Eun Jin also showcases an unexpected transformation. Yoo Gil Chae plays a significant role as the leader when leaving Piran with her friends Kyung Eun Ae (Lee Da In), her confidant (Park Jung Yeon), Kyung Eun Ae’s confidant Bang Du Ne (Kwon So Hyun), who is pregnant. She stabbed the people trying to scare Kyung Eun Ae with the dagger given by Lee Jang Hyun and saved the King’s grandson as well as her friends so that everyone could get on the boat and escape from the enemy camp.
Ahn Eun Jin’s passionate acting not only persuaded viewers and eased their worries but also drew favorable reviews. Many people praised her realistic portrayal of Yoo Gil Chae when shedding tears and blaming herself for pushing aside other refugees to save her friends, saying it clearly depicted the horrors of war. Thanks to Ahn Eun Jin’s excellent performance, the ratings of “My Dearest”, which started at 5.4% in episode 1, soared to 10.6% after airing the 7th broadcast (August 25th).
As the story develops, Yoo Gil Chae also realizes her feelings for Lee Jang Hyun. Therefore, the audiences are looking forward to seeing how Ahn Eun Jin will portray this desperate romance. In a recent popularity chart for TV & OTT drama casts released by Good Data, Ahn Eun Jin ranked No.2, following No.1 Nam Goong Min.
