dee hsu regret barbie hsu death

After returning as the main MC of the Taiwanese variety show Miss No Fussy, Dee Hsu opened up for the first time about life after her sister’s death.

She candidly described her grief: “All I wanted to do was sleep. The only reason I woke up was to go to the bathroom… If I could, I just wanted to keep sleeping and avoid facing the world.”

Her words painted a raw picture of the emotional paralysis she experienced.

One of the most painful admissions came when she spoke about the trip that preceded the tragedy.

Dee Hsu revealed that she was the one who initially suggested the family trip to Japan, including a visit to a hot spring. Despite their mother’s hesitation due to high holiday costs, the sisters convinced her, and the trip went ahead.

“Every time I think of my sister, I wonder… if we hadn’t gone, would this tragedy have happened?”  she said, her voice filled with guilt.

Her mother reassured her not to think that way, but Dee admitted the regret still lingers deeply.

Dee Hsu also spoke about how she tried to cope with the loss:

  • Immersing herself in dramas to distract her mind
  • Forcing herself to stay busy
  • Struggling with emotional breakdowns, including excessive drinking

A turning point came through her children. “My daughter told me, ‘Mom, you were really scary last night.’ That’s when I realized I couldn’t keep living like that,”  she shared.

Since then, she has made efforts to suppress overwhelming emotions and regain stability for her family.

Barbie Hsu’s life and relationships had long been in the spotlight. She famously reunited with Koo Jun-yup decades after their initial relationship, and the two married in 2022.

Their reunion story drew widespread attention across Asia, making her sudden passing even more shocking to fans.

Barbie Hsu passed away in February 2025 in Tokyo due to   acute pneumonia, just weeks before her wedding anniversary.

Dee Hsu’s confession highlights a universal aspect of grief—the tendency to replay “what if” scenarios in the aftermath of loss.
