Liu Yifei has long been admired for her ethereal beauty, but recent reports claim maintaining that flawless image comes with a surprisingly high price.
According to Global Times, one of the biggest beauty expenses for the actress is her hair care. Reports suggest that Liu Yifei spends more than 1 million yuan every year on hair treatments and maintenance—an amount comparable to the total income of an average Chinese worker over a decade.

The discussion began after photos circulated online showing the actress with a noticeably thin hairline. In some images where she wore her hair in a ponytail, only a small portion of hair appeared at the tail end, while another picture seemed to reveal a sparse hairline.
To maintain her signature look on screen, Liu Yifei reportedly relies on carefully crafted hairpieces. While filming the historical drama A Dream of Splendor, she is said to have used a custom handmade wig imported from Switzerland. The hairpiece was designed to look completely natural, ensuring that viewers could not detect it on camera.

Sources also claim that the actress recently purchased another wig costing around 150,000 yuan. In addition to the initial price, annual maintenance and styling costs can exceed 1 million yuan in order to maintain its natural appearance.
Beauty experts have noted that although Liu Yifei’s hair may be relatively thin, her styling choices help conceal it effectively. The actress rarely parts her hair down the middle or uses bangs. Instead, she often sweeps her hair back and adds volume at the front, creating the illusion of fuller hair.

Another advantage lies in her facial structure. Experts say Liu Yifei’s well-balanced head shape and elegant bone structure help maintain a harmonious look even with minimal hair volume, making the styling appear more natural.
Online reactions to the reports have been mixed but largely supportive. Many fans joked that even if the actress shaved her head, she would still be beautiful thanks to her striking features.

Born in 1987, Liu Yifei became the youngest student ever admitted to the prestigious Beijing Film Academy at the age of 15. She first gained recognition in the drama The Story of a Noble Family before achieving massive popularity through her role as Wang Yuyan in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils.
Over the years, she has continued to build her reputation with major productions such as Chinese Paladin, The Return of the Condor Heroes, and more recently Meet Yourself and The Tale of Rose.
Thanks to her timeless beauty and enduring popularity, Liu Yifei remains one of the most recognizable stars in Chinese entertainment, often referred to by fans as the legendary “Fairy Sister.”
