Actor Lee Dong Hwi has addressed the unexpected appearance of Song Min Ho at the VIP premiere of the upcoming film Method Acting, clarifying that he was not the one who personally invited the WINNER member.
On the morning of March 16, Lee Dong Hwi sat down for an interview at a café in Samcheong-ro, Jongno District in Seoul, where he discussed his role in the film Method Acting. During the conversation, the actor was asked about the circumstances behind Song Min Ho’s appearance at the movie’s recent premiere.
Responding cautiously, Lee Dong Hwi said, “Actually, I didn’t personally invite him… I also found out about it at the venue.” His brief comment appeared to dispel speculation that he had arranged for the idol to attend.
The premiere for Method Acting was held on March 13 at the Megabox theater in COEX, Seoul. Song Min Ho’s presence quickly drew attention because the rapper had kept a low profile amid controversy surrounding his alternative military service. Some online users speculated that Lee Dong Hwi—who is known to be close friends with Song Min Ho—might have invited him to the event. However, the actor’s statement indicates that the assumption was not accurate.
Song Min Ho previously served as a public service worker from 2023 to 2024 as part of his mandatory military duty. In December 2024, just before his scheduled discharge, allegations of negligent service surfaced. On December 30, prosecutors from the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office indicted the artist without detention on charges of violating the Military Service Act.
The first court hearing was originally scheduled for March 24. However, after Song Min Ho’s legal team requested a postponement on March 5, the court approved the request, moving the hearing to April 21.
Meanwhile, Method Acting marks a unique project for Lee Dong Hwi, who not only stars in the film but also participated heavily in its planning and production. The film features a meta-style narrative in which the actor plays a character named “Lee Dong Hwi,” blending the boundaries between the real person, the actor, and the fictional character.
Known for his comedic roles, Lee Dong Hwi portrays an actor who no longer wants to make audiences laugh, creating a layered story that explores identity, performance, and the nature of acting itself. The unconventional concept of Method Acting aims to deliver humor while also reflecting on the actor’s public image and personal struggles.
The film Method Acting is scheduled to premiere in theaters on March 18.
