Biography
Seo Hyun-jin is a South Korean actress and singer. She first debuted as the lead vocalist of the K-pop girl group M.I.L.K. in 2001 before transitioning to acting in 2006. Over the years she has become one of Korea’s most respected actresses, known for her versatility across romance, melodrama, and legal drama genres.
Early Life and Music Career
Seo was born on February 27, 1985, in Nowon-gu (formerly Dobong District), Seoul, South Korea. She was scouted early in her teens by SM Entertainment and debuted as the main vocalist and maknae (youngest member) of the girl group M.I.L.K. on December 17, 2001 with the album With Freshness. The group disbanded in 2003 after a short run amid lineup changes.
Following the disbandment, Seo attended Dongduk Women’s University, majoring in musicology, and contributed a number of solo tracks to SM Town compilations and drama soundtracks before entering acting.
Acting Career
Seo made her acting debut in 2006 through the musical The Sound of Music, which she later cited as a turning point for her transition into on-screen performance. Her early roles included supporting appearances in Hwang Jin-yi (2006) and the police thriller H.I.T. (2007).
She drew award attention for her performance in The Duo (2011), winning Best New Actress at the MBC Drama Awards. In the early 2010s she took on diverse supporting and lead roles in historical and contemporary series such as Feast of the Gods (2012), Here Comes Oh Ja-ryong (2012–2013), and The King’s Daughter, Soo Baek-hyang (2013–2014).
Seo’s breakthrough came with the romantic comedy Another Miss Oh (2016), where she portrayed the titular role of Oh Hae-young, winning Best Actress at the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards and cementing her star status. Following this, she gained further acclaim for her roles in the medical melodrama Dr. Romantic (2016–2017), the romance Temperature of Love (2017), The Beauty Inside (2018), the mystery-romance You Are My Spring (2021), and the legal drama Why Her (2022).
In recent years she has continued to expand her range with leading roles in Netflix’s The Trunk (2024) and other upcoming projects.
