Biography

Nana (Born Im Jin-ah) is a South Korean singer, actress, and model. She first gained prominence as a member of the girl group After School and its sub-units Orange Caramel and A.S. RED. Since transitioning to acting, she has appeared in numerous television series and films, earning recognition for her performances across genres. In 2025, she made her solo music debut with the album Seventh Heaven 16, marking a major milestone in her long-standing entertainment career.

Early Life and Education

Im Jin-ah was born on September 14, 1991, in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea. She graduated from Ochang High School in Cheongju and later studied at the Seoul Institute of the Arts. Early in her career, she participated in the 2009 Asia Pacific Super Model Contest, which helped launch her entry into the entertainment industry.

Career

Debut with After School and Orange Caramel (2009–2015)

Nana debuted as a member of After School on November 25, 2009, with the single “Because of You.” She became known for her striking visuals, stage presence, and versatility as a performer. In June 2010, she debuted with After School’s sub-unit Orange Caramel alongside members Raina and Lizzy, releasing several successful singles that showcased a playful, quirky concept contrasting with After School’s mature image. She was also part of the sub-unit A.S. RED.

She remained active with After School and its sub-units throughout the early 2010s before stepping back from idol group activities to focus more on acting and solo endeavors.

Acting Career (2015–Present)

Nana began her acting career with roles in television dramas starting in 2015 with Love Weaves Through a Millennium. She gained wider attention in mainstream acting with appearances in The Good Wife (2016), Kill It (2019), Justice (2019), and the Netflix series Mask Girl (2023), where she received praise for her nuanced performance. Her film credits include roles in The Swindlers and Confession.

In 2025, she expanded her entertainment portfolio by releasing her first solo music album, Seventh Heaven 16, on her birthday, celebrating over a decade in the industry as a singer.
