On May 19, the Criminal Division 1 of the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court held the fifth trial hearing for suspect A, who is facing charges of robbery and bodily injury. During the hearing, the court proceeded with questioning the defendant but concluded the arguments without conducting the previously scheduled witness examination.
During the trial, prosecutors stated, “The severity of the crime is extremely serious, the defendant has shown no genuine remorse, and no settlement has been reached with the victims,” while requesting a 10-year prison sentence.
Earlier in the defendant’s questioning, A claimed that he did not bring a knife when entering the residence. He stated, “I was startled when I encountered Nana’s mother. She was also shocked and told me to leave. I tried to calm her down and said I only came to steal valuables, but she pushed me.”
He further alleged, “Nana’s mother threatened me with a knife and stabbed my neck. I hugged her body to calm her down and never strangled her.”
The defendant also claimed, “After being stabbed, I was bleeding heavily. Nana’s mother hit me several times as well. I grabbed the knife blade with both hands because if I let go, I thought I would die. Eventually, I held it with my right hand and could hear my skin tearing. The confrontation finally ended. I never assaulted anyone. If hugging her counts as assault, then I admit to that.”
A additionally explained his motives during the trial, saying, “They asked why I committed such a crime and questioned my name and age, so I answered honestly. My mother collapsed from a brain hemorrhage and is hospitalized. I had to borrow 10 million won from her to pay a previous fine, so I ended up trying to steal valuables.”
He further claimed that Nana allegedly told him to say the knife belonged to him before threatening to report him to the police. According to the suspect, the conversation between him, Nana, and her mother lasted around 30 minutes before police were eventually called.
The defendant continued to deny several accusations, saying, “I admit my wrongdoing, but I absolutely never brought a knife, strangled anyone, or committed violence. I have reflected deeply on my actions and I’m sorry.”
He also stated that he did not realize the victim was Nana at the time of the break-in and only learned her identity during the police investigation.
Later in court, A added, “Nana told me to claim it was my knife, so during the investigation I stated that the knife belonged to me.”
The suspect was arrested and indicted after allegedly breaking into Nana’s residence in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, on November 15 of last year. He was accused of threatening Nana and her mother with a weapon while attempting to steal money.
At the time of the incident, Nana and her mother reportedly subdued the suspect themselves after a physical struggle before handing him over to the police.
Following the incident, A countersued Nana on charges including attempted murder, claiming he was injured while being restrained. However, police concluded Nana acted in self-defense and declined to forward the case to prosecutors. Nana later filed a counter-lawsuit against the suspect for false accusation.
Nana and her mother later appeared as witnesses during the third trial hearing held on April 21. During the hearing, Nana reportedly showed visible anger as soon as she saw the defendant in court, asking him, “Is this fun for you?” She continued, “Is it fun going around committing robbery like this? Look me straight in the eyes. Is this fun for you?”
During her testimony, Nana also opened up about the trauma she experienced following the incident.
“After going through this, I thought I was okay. But without realizing it, it has remained like trauma in my life. I came here praying that this case would be resolved quickly,” she stated emotionally.
After the hearing, Nana communicated with fans through a fan platform, admitting, “When I saw his face, I became so angry and absurdly frustrated that I failed to control my emotions. But I finally said everything I had never been able to say before.”
She added, “I said everything I wanted to say to that man, and I do not regret my actions or words. I know everyone was worried, but I’m okay. I believe this will finally come to an end.”
Nana also posted on her personal social media account, writing, “I hope he pays the price for all of his malicious crimes,” alongside the phrase “You reap what you sow.”
