Kim Jong Kook tied the knot with a non-celebrity bride on September 5. As a fellow cast member of SBS’s variety show Running Man since 2010, Song Ji Hyo was among the most visibly emotional and excited when Kim announced his surprise marriage to the cast back in August.
Known for her playful on-screen love line with Kim on Running Man, Song Ji Hyo recalled the amusing moment when some people speculated that she might have been the bride. “I thought, ‘Why do they think it’s me?’” she said, before adding, “Even if it really had been me, wouldn’t he have told everyone? I’m sorry if it caused any unnecessary misunderstanding with his wife.”
At first, Song Ji Hyo didn’t believe the marriage news. “I thought it was just a prank for a YouTube video, but then I realized, ‘Oh? This is real!’” she recalled. She added jokingly, “He claims he dropped hints, but from our perspective, there were no signs at all. Since he’s always such a cautious person, everything just seemed like part of his normal routine.”
Addressing speculation that she might have foreseen his marriage, she explained, “The timing doesn’t match, but he was smiling more often, so I wondered if he might be in love. Turns out, that wasn’t the case at the time.”
Despite attending the wedding, Song Ji Hyo confessed she still doesn’t know anything about Kim Jong Kook’s wife. “I honestly don’t have any information about her, so I can’t say much. At the wedding, it was as if everyone had agreed in advance—not a single person took out their phone to snap photos,” she revealed, highlighting the intimate and private atmosphere.
Song Ji Hyo also reflected warmly on her Running Man co-stars: “The ones who shared love lines with me all ended up getting married. If they received good energy from me, then I’m happy.” She added candidly, “Right now, I’m so busy with work that I don’t think I’m in a place to experience romance. Honestly, dating still feels overwhelming for me at this moment.”
