In a statement released on his channel on October 2, attorney Go Sang-rok emphasized, “The essence of this issue is evidence manipulation.” He explained that the opposing side had taken photos from Kim Soo Hyun’s adult years and presented them as supposed evidence of an underage relationship, while also misrepresenting KakaoTalk conversations that were in fact sent by a third party, not the actor.
Go pointed out that there are only two items being put forward as so-called proof from Kim Sae Ron’s underage years: a single letter Kim Soo Hyun wrote during his military service in 2018 and a brief video of a meal taken while he was on leave.
He contrasted this with more than 150 handwritten letters Kim Soo Hyun sent to his actual girlfriend at the time. These letters, he explained, were filled with expressions of gratitude, affection, and anticipation for small dates during leave—demonstrating that the actor’s focus was entirely on his then-partner.
In contrast, the one letter sent to Kim Sae Ron contained no romantic language or concrete promises, instead resembling a general note between acquaintances that discussed his military life and plans after discharge.
Go further clarified that while the late actress once visited Kim Soo Hyun’s home, it was also the residence of his brother and agency CEO, and there was no prior mention of it in his personal letters. He stressed that this was a natural, everyday interaction rather than a secret meeting, noting: “Their relationship was nothing more than ordinary exchanges as fellow entertainers, without any romantic interest or special feelings. There is not a single piece of evidence proving otherwise.”
The attorney criticized certain media outlets for failing to address the matter properly and vowed to continue setting the record straight: “I will not tire in presenting the facts. This is a task aligned with my belief in truth and justice.”
He concluded by saying the disclosure was intended to help the public clearly understand that “the actor was entirely devoted to his then-girlfriend” and reaffirmed his commitment to correcting misinformation surrounding Kim Soo Hyun.
