A former contestant on SBS PLUS and ENA’s dating reality show I Am Solo has been referred to prosecution on charges of assaulting a woman he was dating.
Hwaseong Dongtan Police confirmed on September 27 that a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, was sent to the prosecution without detention on September 15. He faces charges of inflicting injury through assault.
Mr. A allegedly attacked his girlfriend, Ms. B, on March 11, 2023, at her family’s home in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province. According to reports, he is accused of grabbing her by the throat, pulling her hair, and shoving her. Ms. B reportedly suffered sprains and other injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment.
Additionally, Mr. A is accused of another assault on April 6, 2024, at a lodging facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, where he allegedly choked her again.
It is reported that Mr. A first connected with Ms. B through an open chat room he had created to interact with I Am Solo viewers. Their relationship began after conversations in the chat room but eventually turned violent, leading Ms. B to file a police complaint.
A police spokesperson stated, “The charges were substantiated and the case has been referred to the prosecution,” adding that they could not disclose further investigative details.
Since its launch in July 2021, I Am Solo has gained popularity for depicting single men and women in search of marriage. However, controversies surrounding some contestants have raised questions about the show’s participant vetting process.
