A popular child star has made his debut as a male idol in a famous Kpop group under YG Entertainment.
There are many Korean artists who were noticed by the entertainment agencies from an early age. That’s why lots of idols actually started out as child actors or models in the industry. Having an innocent face with big round eyes, TREASURE’s Junkyu used to be a famous child CF star. He became familiar to the Korean public thanks to his appearance in many commercials when he was only a kid.
Born in 2000, Junkyu has now become a tall and handsome young man with an impressive height of nearly 1m8. Last year, he made his debut in the Kpop scene as the lead vocalist and visual of TREASURE. In 2017, Junkyu participated in the survival show MIXNINE but was unfortunately eliminated in episode 10.
Not giving up on his dreams, he continued to compete in Treasure Box, another survival show held by YG. As a result, Junkyu was officially announced as the 4th member of TREASURE – BLACKPINK‘s junior boy group.
Despite having debuted for not long, Junkyu and some other members of TREASURE were once involved in a controversy. Specifically, in the radio show Kang Han Na’s Volume Up of KBS CoolFM in 2020, Junkyu, Mashiho, Asahi, Doyoung and Junghwan were asked to cover the hit song “Really Really” by their senior boy group WINNER.
However, while singing, TREASURE members forgot the lyrics of “Really Really”. Instead of looking embarrassed by their mistake, the members were laughing and even teasing each other. Their lack of seriousness when covering WINNER’s song caused some netizens to criticize these 5 members for disrespecting their seniors.
Currently, after about 8 months since their “Beautiful” MV was released, TREASURE is preparing for a comeback with a web drama project. Recently, the trailer for the group’s web drama “Namgo Ghost Story” was posted. This will be an opportunity for TREASURE members to promote their acting ability. The web drama will officially broadcast on November 12.
