YG Gave Back G-Dragon’s Stage Name Trademark Rights For Free

YG Entertainment has transferred the trademark rights of stage names such as "G-Dragon" and "GD" back to G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong).

According to a report by TenAsia on August 1st, YG Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as YG) has decided to transfer the trademark rights of stage names such as “G-Dragon,” “GD” to G-Dragon. For YG, G-Dragon is a very symbolic artist, and they have made the decision as the name “G-Dragon” contains his own identity. As a result, G-Dragon will be able to freely use the name “G-Dragon” for his solo career in the future.

In a related development, “I understand that the trademark ‘G-Dragon’ has been handed over,” G-Dragon’s agency Galaxy Corporation said. “There is no problem at all in us operating under the name of G-Dragon.” As trademark rights are usually recognized as important intellectual property rights (IP), YG’s decision is expected to be recorded as an important case in the industry.
