“The Actress Could Have Died!” Disney+ “Red Swan” Starring Kim Ha-neul Criticized For Filming On Dangerous And Prohibited Breakwater
Fans raised concerns as an actress’ safety was not put in consideration
Only a day has passed since Girls’ Generation Yuri’s photo taken on the breakwater became controversial. Now for the same reason, the Disney+ drama “Red Swan” is being criticized.
In the seventh episode of “Red Swan,” which was released on July 25th, a female bodyguard of the Fine Group climbs on the breakwater (Tetrapod) and takes pictures of Kim Ha-neul and Jung Ji-hoon. She sneaked in to film the scene of their affair. After taking all the pictures, she ran on the breakwater to hide herself quickly so as not to get caught.
Tetrapod is a concrete structure that absorbs wave energy to protect the coast from tides and storm surges. It consists of four horn-shaped legs, and the most common is 4 to 5 meters in diameter. Usually, it is stacked in 1 to 4 layers, so the depth of the gap can reach the height of the 2nd to 3rd floors of an apartment building. If one hits their arms or legs against the structure while falling, they will get a fracture, and if one hits their head, they can die instantly. It is hard for a person to climb out of this structure on their own. There are many slippery areas because of water or moss on the bottom of the tetrapods. Due to the nature of the structure, there is no place to hold or step on as well. You have to wait until someone rescues you, but the sound of waves around the breakwater is loud, making it difficult to ask for help.
According to the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, 462 accidents related to breakwaters have occurred nationwide in the past six years, with 65 deaths. For this reason, the Port Act imposes fines of up to 1 million won when civilians enter certain large ports and accident areas.
As it is a space with a very high risk of accidents, “Red Swan” not being aware of it is highly criticized. Even though only one actress climbed on the breakwater on the screen, but several staff members were likely standing on the breakwater together to film her. In particular, as the female bodyguard was filmed behind the breakwater with Jung Ji-hoon and Kim Ha-neul passing in front of her, it is expected that many staff members will be with her deep inside the Tetrapod.
Unexpected accidents always happen. It is time to realize that many performers even lost their lives due to dangerous filming environments and lack of consideration by the production staff.
