Viewers Complain About Drunk Driving Scene In “Lovely Runner”
Following “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon”, “Lovely Runner” also received criticism for showing a drunk driving scene
Recently, tvN’s new drama “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” was criticized for including a scene where the character drives a car after drinking alcohol. In the end, the production team had to issue an apology and delete the controversial scene in VOD and reruns.
This is not the first time tvN has faced criticism for its drunk driving scene. The same issue was noticed in episode 13 of the popular drama “Lovely Runner”, which aired on May 20th. In particular, Im Sol (Kim Hye-yoon) returned to her 34-year-old version after failing to save Ryu Seon-jae (Byun Woo-seok).
Im Sol was filming an actor sitting and drinking alcohol like a boss. The bossy actor refused to continue the filming then headed toward the parking lot and got into their car. As soon as the actor started driving, Im Sol stopped the car by hitting the car with her own car.
Im Sol scolded the actor, “Are you driving after drinking alcohol?”, but got questioned by the police for causing a car accident. Although the main character did not act drunk driving, the scene was directed in a comical way with bright background music, causing confusion to viewers. Since “Lovely Runner” is going viral, some viewers pointed out, “How can they openly show a drunk driving scene like that?”.
What’s more disappointing is that two tvN dramas have sparked controversy over drunk driving scenes at the same time.
