Yoo Ah In Hit by Bundle of Cash Thrown by Citizen Upon Leaving the Court: “Use it to Pay Bail”

After the coffee bottle incident, Yoo Ah In, who is facing allegations of drug use, was hit by a bundle of cash

On September 21st, Yoo Ah In underwent a substantive review of his detention warrant (pre-detention hearing of a suspect) at the Seoul Central District Court, for charges including violation of drug control laws, destruction of evidence, and fleeing the scene.

Yoo Ah In’s detention warrant review comes approximately four months after the first detention warrant, which was applied for by the police in May, was rejected. At that time, the court rejected Yoo Ah In’s detention warrant, citing that it was difficult to conclude that there was a risk of evidence tampering or escape.

Having narrowly escaped his first detention crisis, Yoo Ah In once again faced the possibility of detention as a second detention warrant was requested. The prosecution added charges that Yoo Ah In had instructed an acquaintance to destroy evidence during the investigation process or coerced his companion to smoke marijuana while in the US after conducting supplementary investigations for three months. Therefore, the public is interested in whether Yoo Ah In can avoid detention this time as well.

After completing the approximately three-hour-long substantive review of the detention warrant, Yoo Ah In appeared fatigued. While leaving the court with a stern expression, Yoo Ah In was hit by a bundle of cash thrown by a male citizen.

Previously, he was hit by a coffee bottle thrown by a citizen after his first detention warrant review. The citizen told Yoo Ah In, “Use it as bail money,” as he scattered a bundle of money consisting of ten thousand, five thousand, and one thousand won bills.

Yoo Ah In is facing allegations that he repeatedly purchased and used medical narcotics, including Propofol, by abusing the use of anesthesia for cosmetic procedures at hospitals in Seoul since 2020. He is also accused of obtaining sleep medication in someone else’s name and using it and of using drugs such as marijuana in the US with acquaintances in January.

On the same day, one of Yoo Ah In’s acquaintances, Choi, also underwent a substantive review of his detention warrant.

The decision regarding Yoo Ah In’s detention is expected to be made later in the day.
