ATTRAKT, the agency of K-pop girl group FIFTY FIFTY, has announced plans to appeal a recent court ruling in a copyright dispute over their hit song “Cupid.”
Court Ruling Favors The Givers in Copyright Dispute
On May 9, 2025, ATTRAKT revealed they are preparing to challenge the first-instance judgment made by the Seoul Central District Court, which sided with The Givers in the copyright lawsuit.
The court ruled on May 8 that The Givers, not ATTRAKT, held the copyright to “Cupid” based on the contract’s terms. The agency had filed the lawsuit to confirm their ownership of the song’s copyright. However, the court’s decision favored The Givers, stating that the external production company held the rights to the track. ATTRAKT plans to appeal this ruling, stating they are currently reviewing the legal situation with the help of their legal team.

ATTRAKT’s Legal Efforts with Investigations
On November 27, 2023, ATTRAKT revealed they had appointed the prestigious Kim & Jang law firm to represent them, stating, “We have determined a high probability of illegality in the ‘Cupid’ copyright registration process.” This announcement comes after ATTRAKT filed a criminal complaint on June 27, 2023, accusing The Givers’ CEO, An Sung-il, of various charges including obstruction of business, destruction of electronic records, fraud, embezzlement, and breach of duty.

Kim & Jang law firm has stated that investigations into document forgery, violations of outsourcing contracts, and unauthorized registration of copyright shares are ongoing. They also confirmed, “We are preparing to respond to cases involving unauthorized registration of copyright shares and plan to address any reduction in Keena’s creative contributions related to FIFTY FIFTY in the future.”
ATTRAKT’s ongoing legal efforts highlight their commitment to protecting the interests of FIFTY FIFTY and ensuring the rightful ownership of their work. Fans and industry insiders continue to watch the developments closely as both sides prepare for what could become a long and contentious legal battle.
