Zico Apologizes for Popularizing Dance Challenges in K-pop

Recently, on “Point of Omniscient Interfere,” Zico shared his honest thoughts about the dance challenge trend:

“Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of criticism. It’s because doing challenges has become a mandatory part of promotional activities. Normally during breaks, all artists would rest or practice in the waiting room. But nowadays, they have to meet up with fellow artists to film challenges. Every artist must even know each other’s choreography. In light of this, I’d like to offer my sincere apologies.”

In early 2020, Zico invited Hwasa and later other artists to do the “Any Song Challenge” to promote his latest hit ‘Any Song. The video immediately went viral on social networks and created a trend among young people.

“Dance Challenge” also became popular in the Korean music industry as a new form of promotion. Artists will often ask colleagues to do their challenges during breaks to promote their songs.
