Musician Yoon Sang revealed the reason why he initially opposed his eldest son’s idol debut
On the Oct 9th broadcast of SBS’s “Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 – You Are My Destiny”, Yoon Sang, who has been married for 22 years, appeared.
Yoon Sang is a renowned musician known for his hit songs like “Violet Fragrance” (Kang Susie), “Only I Didn’t Know” (IU) and “Ah-Choo” (Lovelyz). Recently, his eldest son debuted as Anton in SM Entertainment’s new boy group RIIZE, earning him the title of “Nation’s father-in-law of the MZ Generation”.
However, Yoon Sang did not initially support his son’s idol debut; in fact, he opposed it. Yoon Sang mentioned his son’s past as a promising swimmer, saying, “He was involved in swimming since he was 5 years old. At the age of 12, he even won first place in a junior championship in New Jersey, so I thought he would excel in school through swimming.“
He continued, “However, all swimming pools were closed due to COVID-19. Anton said, ‘I want to quit swimming and pursue music instead.’ No parent can win their child. So, when he said that he wanted to go to Korea for it, I agreed. He lived with me for a year.”
Kim Gura, who watched over Yoon Sang during that time, commented, “You must have been under a lot of stress at that time. Isn’t the entertainment industry too challenging?” Kim Sook added “That’s right. Don’t you know that path very well?“, empathizing with Yoon Sang’s feelings.
