It was confirmed that actor Yoo Ah In (37, real name Uhm Hong Sik), who is under police investigation for habitual use of propofol, has frequently taken propofol since 2021.
To summarize the Dong-A Ilbo coverage on February 9th, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety captured the so-called “medical shopping” situation, in which Yoo Ah In has been prescribed propofol at various hospitals since 2021, and requested the police to investigate back in November 2022. It is said that by analyzing the drug integrated management system, which contains information about narcotics and psychotropic drugs, hospitals prescribing them, and patients who took them, they became suspicious of Yoo Ah In’s habitual propofol use. An official from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “An expert review revealed that an excessive amount of propofol was prescribed, even under the assumption that Yoo Ah In had multiple diseases at the same time.”
It was confirmed that the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety requested an investigation into a total of 51 people last year, including Yoo Ah In. Accordingly, the police’s investigation into habitual use of propofol is expected to expand in the future. Yoo Ah In’s agency UAA said on Feb 8th, “We are actively cooperating with all investigations related to this. We will actively explain the problematic parts.”
