YG’s Modest Promotion of BABYMONSTER Contrasts Starkly with BLACKPINK’s Grand Debut: A World of Difference

BABYMONSTER’s debut is considered far inferior compared to BLACKPINK

On November 27, BABYMONSTER will officially debut with the single “Batter Up.” After revealing the visual images of the six members, Chiquita, Rora, Asa, Rami, Pharita, Ruka, YG unleashed teaser MVs. The lineup for BABYMONSTER’s debut in “Batter Up” was presented for the first time in its entirety, with the notable absence of the key player, Ahyeon, due to health reasons. Recently, YG released a countdown poster for the debut single, showcasing the charisma and appearances of the six new members.

However, this still left the audience somewhat disappointed. As the next generation after BLACKPINK, YG’s rookie girl group is receiving more attention than ever. Despite high expectations for the music, given the innovative production team and the revealed intense melodies through teasers, the concept aspect of BABYMONSTER seems to be underinvested. Throughout the introduction of “Batter Up,” the rookie group only had a basic costume layout.

Notably, BABYMONSTER gradually lost momentum as the company kept the rookie group under wraps for too long. Looking at how YG built the image for BABYMONSTER’s debut MV, many fans expressed disappointment, even comparing it unfavorably to a group from a smaller company. BABYMONSTER seems like a low-budget project.

In 2016, BLACKPINK’s image was extensively promoted for a long time. Debuting with the singles “Boombayah” and “Whistle,” BLACKPINK quickly proved themselves as formidable rookies with significant investment in MVs, settings, and outfits. The four girls had a sophisticated, trendy image, leading the trend from the early days of their debut. Before officially meeting the public, the photo concepts for BLACKPINK were already countless.
