Winners of the 27th Chunsa Film Art Awards: “Decision to Leave” won 3 awards Best Director & Best Actor/Actress → “Best New Actress” IU

The 27th Chunsa Film Art Awards ended successfully with “Decision to Leave” winning 3 awards.

The 27th Chunsa Film Art Awards was held at Sowol Arts Hall in Seongdong-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of September 30th. Hosted by the Korean Film Directors Association, this is a non-profit competitive film award created to honor Na Woon-gyu, a pioneer in the Korean film industry.

Films selected for nominations were released from July 1st last year to August 31st this year. Chunsa Film Art Awards consists of a total of 12 categories, such as Best Director, Best New Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best New Actor, Best New Actress, International Directors’ Award, etc. This year’s Chunsa International Directors’ Award was won by Kore-eda Hirokazu of “Broker”.

Nominees for Best Director were Shin Su-won of “Hommage”, Park Chan-wook of “Decision to Leave”, Byun Sung-Hyun of “Kingmaker”, Kim Han-min of “Hansan: Rising Dragon”, Hong Sang-soo of “In Front of Your Face” and Ryoo Seung-wan of “Escape from Mogadishu”. As a result, director Park Chan-wook was announced as the winner.

Best Actor and Best Actress were also won by “Decision to Leave”. With Park Hae-il and Tang Wei receiving Best Actor and Best Actress, “Decision to Leave” team took home three awards.

Taking the stage, Park Hae-il said, “I would like to thank director Park Chan-wook for giving me the role of Jang Hae-jun, and share this award with Tang Wei who is in China right now”, adding “I’m looking forward to the days when many more people can come to the movie theaters like before”.

Tang Wei, who is staying in China, also gave her acceptance speech through a video message. She said, “I’m so honored and grateful to receive the best actress award. This movie would not have existed without the director, the writer, actor Park Hae-il, and all the staff”, adding “Thank you Korean audiences for your support”.

Park Ji-hwan of “The Roundup” was awarded Best Supporting Actor. Expressing his feelings, he shared, “Thank you for giving me such an honorable award”, adding “I will work harder to become an actor who can show various emotions through my performance”.

Best Supporting Actress was won by Oh Na-ra of “Perhaps Love”. She shared, “I’ve never imagined this to happen and I was very surprised when my name got called. It feels like a dream and I’m very thankful”, expressing her gratitude.

‘Crime City 2’ (director Lee Sang-yong), which was the first film to break 10 million viewers this year, took the award for the most popular movie selected by the audience, and director Lee Sang-yong also received the New Director Award.

The Rookie of the Year award was jointly won by Mu Jin-sung of “Genre Man Romance” and Kim Dong-hwi, a mathematician in “The Wonderland.” In addition, Lee Ji-eun (IU) of “Broker” won the Rookie of the Year award. Lee Ji-eun, who was scheduled to attend the award ceremony, was classified as a close contact with COVID-19 after visiting Milan Fashion Week earlier, so unfortunately, she was unable to join. 

The Best Screenplay went to Kim Han-min, Yoon Hong-ki, and Inara for ‘Hansan: The Appearance of the Dragon’, while the Technology Award went to ‘Mogadishu’.
