Vernon, “We didn’t think Seventeen would do well… My parents are both painters but I’m not interested in arts”

Seventeen Vernon shared honest talks with MC Park Myung Soo on “Radio Show”.

On May 12th, Seventeen member Vernon guested on KBS CoolFM’s “Park Myung Soo’s Radio Show”.

Park Myung Soo said, “He especially likes me. He was also the first idol star in Korea to give me a gift. I’m still using it well when I work out”, showing off his friendship with Vernon.

Revealing that he became a fan of Park Myung Soo after watching “Infinite Challenge” during his Covid-19 quarantine period, Vernon confessed, “I didn’t watch Korean TV shows when I was young. I came from the U.S., and there was a rule in my house that everyone had to use English, so I didn’t know any Korean shows. But later I became addicted to ‘Infinite Challenge’.”

Vernon chose Park Myung Soo’s “I Love You” as his favorite song and even sang along to the lyrics, drawing laughter. He showed his enthusiastic affection for Park Myung Soo by adding the buzzword ‘Yes I can’ into the lyrics. In response, Park Myung Soo said, “Our Min Seo let me hear SEVENTEEN’s new song and Fifty Fifty’s song yesterday. They were all so good.”

Vernon was born in the U.S. and is fluent in English so he is in charge of Seventeen’s overseas interviews together with Joshua. He also briefly mentioned his parents.

Vernon has a Korean father and an American mother, both of whom are abstract contemporary artists. “Both of them majored in arts and they met at a graduate school in New York, where I was born”, Vernon said, adding that he has never been interested in arts, unlike his parents.

Vernon jokingly said, “I don’t think I have any talent in drawing”. When asked about his music talent, the male idol said, “My mother has no sense of rhythm and my father can’t dance”, drawing laughter.

During the broadcast, Vernon expressed gratitude for the astonishing record of 4 million pre-orders and showed his humility by saying, “Honestly, we didn’t think we would do well. We just wondered who would like us and why, but we worked hard anyway.”

Meanwhile, Vernon also expressed his gratitude towards fans for helping them achieve the amazing record of 4 million album pre-orders. When asked, “Did you expect Seventeen to become such a worldwide star”, he humbly replied, “To be honest, we didn’t think we would do well. ‘Who would like us?’, ‘Why do they like us?’, etc. We only had those thoughts, but we tried to work hard.”
