There is a TV program that is proving hot topicality on OTT and YouTube, although its TV ratings are low at 1%.
KBS2’s entertainment program “HK Coin”, which airs every Thursday at 8:30 PM (KST), is an “old concept” variety show, where a coin can determine fate. As the show is carried out under the title of “old concept” rather than “new concept”, it takes advantage of the classic concept and brings a more familiar charm.
“HK Coin”, which first aired in July last year, started with a rating of 1.5% based on Nielsen Korea. Since then, it has often hovered around the 1% range, making for a somewhat disappointing report card.
The most recent episode also recorded a low rating of 1.3%.
However, the show is attracting attention by achieving remarkable results on platforms such as YouTube and OTT. According to the official YouTube channel, as of April 13th, the episode “Lin Zhao Ming” featuring comedian Lee Soo Ji, including videos and shorts, recorded 10 million views in 5 months of upload.
The episode “Health Examination Sleep Endoscopy” is also showing good results by recording 2 million views.
The show’s regular members include Hong Jin Kyung, Kim Sook, Jo Se Ho, Joo Woo Jae and Jang Woo Young. Their chemistry and the classic concept are pressing viewers’ laughter button.
Besides, sophisticated directing and guests’ performance seem to be receiving favorable reviews from the MZ generation.
Netizens showed reactions such as “It feels like a mixture of Running Man, 2 Days & 1 Night, and New Journey to the West”, and “It’s more fun because the members’ chemistry is good”, among others.
