The movie ‘The Roundup’ (director Lee Sang-yong) surpassed the cumulative audience of the movie ‘Along with the Gods – Causality and Kite’ to rank 16th in the history of the box office.
Based on official statistics released by The Korean Film Council on July 2nd, ‘The Roundup’ beat “Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days” with a number of admissions of 12,274,996. Among movies in which Ma Dong-seok starred as the male lead, this is currently the highest record, following “Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds”.
‘The Roundup’ has generated a steady box office syndrome for more than 45 days since its release on May 18, while ‘Gwanghae: The Man Who Became King’ (2012) is expected to exceed 12,319,542 viewers and is about to rank 14th in the history of the box office.
“The Roundup” is the 28th ’10-million’ movie of all time, the first ’10-million’ movie since the pandemic, the 4th ’10-million’ movie starring Ma Dong-seok as the male lead, and the 20th ’10-million’ Korean movie in history. In addition, “The Roundup” became the Korean movie with the best opening performance on the first day of its release since the pandemic. Later on, it gradually achieved each milestone one after another, such as 2 million admissions on the 4th day of its release, 3 million on the 5th day, 4 million on the 7th day, 5 million on the 10th day, 6 million on the 12th day, 7 million on the 14th day, 8 million on the 18th day and 9 million on the 20th day, 10 million on the 25th day, 11 million on the 31st day, and 12 million on the 40th day.
“The Roundup tells the story of detective Ma Seok Do (Ma Dong Seok) who travels to Vietnam to extradite a suspect only to find out about additional murder cases involving an unknown killer, who has been committing crimes against tourists for many years.
