The only Kpop artist to perform at Coachella 2022 is announced: It’s not BIGBANG, and why is BTS mentioned?

The Coachella music festival is finally back! Which Kpop artist will perform at the event this year?

After being canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic spread, Coachella 2022 has officially come back, attracting the attention of many fans. On January 13th, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2022 announced the lineup of artists performing this year. The event will take place across two weekends: April 15th -17th and April 22nd – 24th.

In the lineup, Epik High is the only K-pop artist to appear besides famous names like Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Kanye West (Ye), Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, etc. Epik High also became the first Korean artist to have been invited to Coachella 3 times in history, following the first time in 2016 and the canceled one in 2020.

On social media, apart from comments of music fans expressing their excitement about the upcoming performance of Epik High at Coachella, many people also mentioned BIGBANG. Earlier in January 2020, BIGBANG was confirmed to perform at Coachella with Epik High. However, the event was canceled due to the pandemic situation.

Fans once raised expectations for a spectacular comeback of the “King of KPOP’s 2nd generation” on the stage of this exciting American music festival. However, it could not become a reality because after 2 years of delay, then the lineup has been changed significantly. The fact that BIGBANG did not appear in the lineup of Coachella 2022 caused quite a disappointment for many fans.

There are also comments that “mock” BTS for not being invited to perform at Coachella. Anti-fans of this Big Hit group believe that BTS is used to singing “auto-tune”, so it is difficult for them to perform live at a music festival in which band performances are required like Coachella. BTS fans often boast that the group is the “King of Kpop”, but the fact that BTS has never been invited to Coachella is considered a “loser” thing, even getting beaten by YG groups, such as BLACKPINK or BIGBANG. In response to such comments, BTS fans went on a rampage and responded harshly.
