Actor Lee Jung-jae, who is loved all over the world for his passionate performance as the main character “Sung Ki-hoon” in Netflix’s original drama “Squid Game“, recently drew attention by being named on New York Times’ “The Breakout Stars of 2021” list.
On Jan 16th, the New York Times introduced Lee Jung-jae as one of the 13 “breakout stars” who stood out in the cultural field such as music, TV and movies. This magazine praised, “Lee Jung-jae took on the role of ‘Sung Ki-hoon’, a gambling addict who is sitting in a pile of debt in Netflix’s series ‘Squid Game’, and played a heartbreaking and surprisingly subtle performance while overcoming the unspeakable horror.”
They then explained the reason for the selection, “He did not simply portray the protagonist as a flat character such as a hero, a villain, an idiot or a scammer.”
The New York Times also introduced that Lee Jung-jae is already a famous actor in Korea and delivered the interview with Lee Jung-jae, saying “Sung Ki-hoon’s emotions in the work are very complicated.”
