“The Glory” Moon Dong-eun’s Mother Park Ji-ah Passes Away from Cerebral Infarction

Actress Park Ji-ah passed away while battling cerebral infarction. She was 52 years old

A close associate of Park Ji-ah told JTBC Enter News on Sep 30th, “She recently collapsed from cerebral infarction and was hospitalized, but unfortunately, she couldn’t recover and passed away. She was an actress with a great passion for acting, which makes this even more tragic.

Debuting in the 2002 film “The Coast Guard”, Park Ji-ah was known for her work with the theater company Chaimu. As a skilled actress, she left a strong impression with her roles, notably playing Asako’s mother in the 2007 film “Epitaph” and the director’s ghost in the 2018 film “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum”.

More than anything, she made a lasting impact on viewers globally through her role as Jung Mi-hee, the mother of Song Hye-kyo‘s character Moon Dong-eun, in Netflix’s original series “The Glory“. Her intense performance in the series showcased her abilities as a seasoned actress. This year, she appeared in the play “Wife”, which concluded in February, and attended the VIP preview of the movie “Wonderland” in May.

Particularly, Park Ji-ah unleashed her full potential as a skilled actress in Netflix’s original series “The Glory”, where she played Jung Mi-hee, the mother of the protagonist Moon Dong-eun (played by Song Hye-kyo). As the first perpetrator of her daughter and the one responsible for the infamous hair straightener incident, she portrayed a 60-year-old alcoholic with such intensity that she garnered praise for her performance. Park Ji-ah once shared, “I lost weight to show the wrinkles and reached my lowest weight ever.” She further explained, “I had to appear as a 60-year-old character, so I lost 7kg to portray that age, and when I saw the wrinkles on screen, I thought, ‘That’s it.’ Her dedication to her craft was evident. Thanks to “The Glory”, she was experiencing a renewed focus on her career, marking a second peak as an actress. Her passion for acting led her to take on diverse roles, including the play “Wife”, which concluded in February this year. Tragically, the news of her passing due to cerebral infarction has left many deeply saddened.

Park Ji-ah’s funeral will be held at the Asan Medical Center in Seoul.
