The ending of Son Seok-gu and Kim Ji-won in “My Liberation Notes” receives mixed responses from the viewers

As “My Liberation Notes” has ended, reactions surrounding the couple Mr. Goo (Son Seok-gu) and Mi-jung (Kim Ji-won) are divided.

In the final episode of JTBC’s Saturday-Sunday “My Liberation Notes”, which aired on May 29th, Mr. Goo said “I thought my hands would get shaky first, but I’m hearing things instead. Well, my brain must be breaking down. I deserve it. Since I drink as soon as I open my eyes in the morning”, talking about his physical condition after becoming dependent on alcohol.

Afterward, Mr. Goo went to the business run by his close senior Hyeon-jin (Lee Shin-sung) to collect money but ended up facing private lenders and engaging in a fight.

However, Mr. Goo did not hate his senior Hyeon-jin and decided to welcome him if he came back in the end. Waking up the next day, Mr. Goo took the money he stored in his house and went out. He bought a bottle of alcohol but then gave it to the homeless person on the street.

Mr. Goo made difficult step by step toward his liberation but smiled while heading somewhere. The image of Yeom Mi-jung smiling happily and saying “I feel so lovable. There’s nothing but love in my heart” came to his mind.

However, some netizens criticized the ending, pointing out that the drama “beautifies the character with a gangster background”.

In the 12th episode of “My Liberation Notes”, which aired on May 15th, it was revealed that Mr. Goo was a host from host bars, making some viewers criticize the character. Since then, they had opposed a happy ending for “GooMi Couple (Mr. Goo and Mi-jung), which was actually shown in the final episode.

Some Internet users continued to pour out criticism, saying “Even movies don’t create male leads with gangster or host bar host backgrounds”, “Son Seok-gu saved the whole drama. The character is not good”, “There should be a limit for creative works”, “Is buying alcohol for an alcoholic worshiping?”, etc.

On the other hand, many other netizens, who showed their support for the drama, expressed different opinions, such as “If you know what the drama is trying to say, you won’t criticize them”, “It’s just a background. Please separate drama and reality”, “If you don’t like it. Just stop watching”, “I think it was interesting”, etc.
