“There’s nothing but love in my heart”… “My Liberation Notes” Kim Ji-won – Son Seok-gu and everyone found their way to liberation in the end
“My Liberation Notes” ended with Kim Ji-won and Son Seok-gu being liberated thanks to each other, leaving a lingering feeling for the viewers.
The final episode of JTBC’s “My Liberation Notes”, which aired on May 29th, drew attention with a touching ending for Yeom Mi-jung (Kim Ji-won), Yeom Ki-jung (Lee El), Yeom Chang-hee (Lee Min-ki) and Mr. Goo (Son Seok-gu).
Yeom Ki-jung continued to love Tae-hun (Lee Ki-woo) but struggled due to opposition from Tae-hun’s family. Ki-jung, who was disappointed when Tae-hun said it was lucky knowing she did not get pregnant, resolved her misunderstanding with Ki-hun after knowing the meaning behind his words, which meant if she was pregnant, he was afraid that the baby would suffer a hard life like him. In addition, Tae-hun’s expression of love toward Ki-jung, which is buying her favorite egg bread and shyly giving her a rose, made Ki-jung realize his rough love and why she had no choice but to love him more while looking at the head of a rose that broke off from its stem in a soy sauce dish. Tae-hun, who was going back home on a bus, also hurriedly fixed his coat right after receiving Ki-jung’s message reminding him that the buttons on his coat had been done up wrong and smiled happily.
Yeom Chang-hee (Lee Min-ki) looked back on the story of how he became a convenience store owner after missing the opportunity to hit the jackpot with the far-infrared sweet potato ovens. Yeom Chang-hee visited Ji Hyun-ah’s ex-boyfriend in the hospital before the appointed time to have his sweet potato ovens verified for delivery but intuitively felt that the ex-boyfriend had not much time to live. Chang-hee gave up on the important appointment and stood by him. Chang-hee said, “I think I was destined for things like this. I was also there when my grandpa, grandma and my mother passed away”, adding, “Whenever I send them away, I was relieved that I was there. My legs led me here again, like a psychic. I know since I’ve sent three people away. When you go, you’ll feel better. Their faces told me. So don’t be afraid and leave peacefully.”
Later on, Yeom Chang-hee happened to get in the wrong lecture room and took the lesson for those who want to become funeral directors. Chang-hee realized his interest in helping to mark the end of one’s life, expressing his happiness in finding a new path for himself.
Yeom Mi-jung got accustomed to her new company and decided to begin meeting with the “Liberation Club” again. In addition, Mi-jung listened to Mr. Goo, who was always drunk in his dark world, confess all of his inner feelings. Mr. Goo said, “When I’m sober, all the people from my past come to me. All of them. Even the dead. When I wake up in the morning, the ones who were resting get up one by one and come to me”, adding, “It feels like there’s sewage wast flowing inside my body”, adding that he drank alcohol to forget them all.
Mr. Goo came to Mi-jung when he was having a hard time then they laughed together and were comforted. Seeing Mr. Goo’s bright smile, Mi-jung said, “When those people come to you again in the morning, laugh like you did now. Welcome them like that.”, giving a tip on liberation for Mr. Goo.
On this day, Mr. Goo got involved in a fight with a group of private lenders because of his trusted senior’s gambling debts but was betrayed in the end. However, after reflecting on the undecided words, he called that senior and said, “I’ll welcome you back,” and left the house with a bundle of money in his bag.
Mr. Goo watched carefully watched the moment that the 500 won coin he had dropped did not go under the manhole for a few seconds, and walked down the street with a more relaxed expression. He smiled all of a sudden. Mr. Goo, too, gave a glimpse of him taking hard steps little by little toward his own liberation.
Yeom Mi-jung also showed a rediscovery of herself, away from being dissatisfied with herself. She said that her life is divided into two parts, before and after meeting Mr. Goo, adding, “I must be crazy. I feel so lovable. There’s nothing but love in my heart. So, I can’t feel anything but love,” she shouted.
The adventures of the Yeom siblings and Mr. Goo towards liberation from their own claustrophobic existence are masterfully combined in “My Liberation Notes”, which includes episodes that reflect on life and famous quotes. It was hailed as a “luxury TV series” by critics. Kim Ji-won, Lee Min-ki, Lee El, Son Seok-gu, and Cheon Ho-jin have given emotional depth to this drama with their impassioned performances.
