The comeback of Cyworld opens a “Pandora’s box” of Korean stars’ past (ft. Lee Min Jung, Kim Go Eun, Seolhyun)

Their throwback posts are pure gold.

As Cyworld, the “original social network service” that hit Korea’s Internet culture in the mid to late 2000s, recently reopened its services, a “Pandora’s box” of celebrities’ past have been unveiled one by one, including the following actresses.

On May 17th, actress Lee Min Jung posted her past photos on Instagram and said, “I also opened my Cyworld photo album… Wow, photos that are full of memories. 14 years ago? Oh my…” The photos show Lee Min Jung 14 years ago, but she boasts an unchanging beauty as if she took them yesterday

Actress Kim Go Eun also took a trip down the memory lane. On May 24th, Kim Goeun posted several photos on her Instagram with the caption, “Cyworld Recovery”. She showed off her youthful, innocent visuals in photos taken during the period from 2008 to 2010. She does not look much different from her current appearance.

Through Instagram, AOA’s Seolhyun also released pictures from her past that were posted on Cyworld. She boasted pure and pretty visuals with popular poses at the time. Her clothes and the high bun hairstyle are filled with memories.

Cyworld is a platform that took over Korea’s social networks back in the day. It started to fade away with the advent of the smartphone era in 2010, after enjoying its peak popularity with more than 40 million users by the late 2000s. Cyworld closed on May 26, 2020 and has recently revived. Cyworld will restore 1.7 billion photos, 150 million videos, and 6.8 billion posts so that users can see and save them again.
