“My Happy End” is a Korean drama currently airing on TV Chosun, exploring the themes of extramarital affairs and revenge. Compared to two other dramas with similar themes, “Maestra” starring Lee Young Ae and “Marry My Husband” starring Park Min Young, “My Happy End” seems to be less well-known. The reason for this is that the drama is broadcast on a less prominent channel and has not been extensively promoted. However, this does not affect the quality of the show. In fact, compared to the other two works, “My Happy End” stands out in terms of intensity, or in other words, it aligns more with the spirit of a revenge-themed drama.
“My Happy End” also revolves around the theme of extramarital affairs, with the female lead, Seo Jae Won (Jang Nara), despite being beautiful, talented, and a successful CEO in her profession, facing infidelity from her husband. Moreover, he is involved with Jae Won’s close friend, a detail similar to the plot of “Marry My Husband.
In the early episodes of the drama, viewers continuously witness Jae Won’s retaliations. When she schedules a meal with her husband and the mistress’ family, she subtly hints at the complex relationship of this couple, leaving the third mistress’ parents uneasy. At a significant event of her own, she publicly confronts the mistress with money and destroys her art piece in front of many reporters. Viewers genuinely applaud Jae Won’s actions and her demonstration of the sophistication of a wealthy, successful woman using money and power for revenge.
After the initial episodes, viewers unanimously agree that this drama is truly captivating to an irresistible extent. Unfortunately, it lacks the vigorous promotion it deserves. Additionally, alongside the eye-catching revenge scenes, the drama bewilders the audience with complex and intricate plot twists. Throughout the first four episodes, viewers are puzzled as they cannot understand who Heo Soon Young (Son Ho Jun), the despicable husband, truly is, and whether he is the actual person involved in the affair. Although the mystery is later revealed that Soon Young cleverly borrowed the identity of his deceased twin brother to engage in the extramarital affair, the audience remains extremely perplexed.
