Taiwanese Production Company Apologized For NewJeans’s MV Filming Controversies

Taiwanese production company in charge of producing NewJeans’s music video apologized for the recent series of controversies

On April 2nd (local time), Taiwanese production company Askafilm Production, which was in charge of filming the music video for NewJeans’s new song, issued an apology on their official SNS.

Recently, there was a report saying an extra actor who appeared in NewJeans’s music video got paid less than the minimum wage under the Labor Standards Law in Taiwan.

In response, the production company said, “We apologize for the misunderstanding and confusion caused by the media report. Our company and the extra actor’s agency will take responsibility. The Korean girl group and their filming staff were not unaware of the situation and they paid reasonable fees.”

Askafilm added, “We apologize to everyone and the staff who were negatively affected by this incident. We will comply with the regulations in the future and try our best to prevent misunderstandings.”

Before this, NewJeans also faced controversy over staff’s abuse of power and filming without permission in Taiwan. A netizen reported that NewJeans’s staff shouted at people on the street, inspected a woman’s phone without permission to see if she took photos of NewJeans, and blocked a nearby parking lot.

In this regard, NewJeans’s agency ADOR refuted the power abuse allegations and released an explanation, claiming that they already received permission from the Taiwan City Hall and the police. They added, “The on-site staff held signs asking people to not take pictures of the filming process and politely asked people in the area to delete photos.”

Meanwhile, NewJeans will release a double single on May 24th. Their new album will include the double single, the title song “How Sweet” and the b-side track “Bubble Gum”.
