Taiwanese Audition Show Performance Copied NewJeans? “Even Their Styling Was The Same”

A stage of girl group members who participated in the Taiwanese audition program “Next Girlz” has become a hot topic among Korean netizens.

Released in July last year, “Next Girlz” is an audition program in which six girl groups from different entertainment agencies competed in 9 rounds to find the winner with the highest score for the money prize.

This program is said to be similar to Mnet’s “Produce 101” series. Regarding “Next Girlz”, the media said, “While Korean survival shows are gaining huge popularity around the world, similar programs have also been produced in Taiwan in recent years. ‘Next Girlz’ is one of them”.

In particular, the stage “Reality” of Ghost Crystal, which was among the performances for Round 3 that took place on August 12th last year, caught the eyes of Korean K-pop fans. It is because this stage resembles NewJeans’ “Hype Boy” performance so much.

Although the number of team members and the vibe of the song are different, many viewers pointed out that the dance was similar to “Hype Boy” choreography. Even the styling of the members also reminded people of NewJeans. As such, some Korean netizens poured criticism, such as “Is that ‘fake’ NewJeans?”.

As “Next Girlz” copied the format of Korean audition programs, there were many traces of K-pop throughout the show. In addition to NewJeans, stages reminiscent of other K-pop girl groups such as I.O.I, IVE, etc. were also found.

“Next Girlz” ended in October 2023 and Magic Blue Bear was the winner.
