After years of hard work, Song Hye Kyo received a well-deserved reward and will turn over a new chapter in her life.
At the “59th Baeksang Arts Awards”, Song Hye Kyo successfully won the “Best Actress” Award in the TV category as Moon Dong Eun in “The Glory”. She surpassed other nominees for the award, including Park Eun Bin with “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, Kim Ji Won with “My Liberation Note”, Kim Hye Soo in “Under the Queen’s Umbrella” and Suzy in “Anna”.
Walking down the path of an actress at 14 years old, Song Hye Kyo is an A-list star with pan-Asian popularity thanks to her long list of hit dramas. Some of the notable ones are “Autumn in My Heart”, “Full House”, “That Winter, the Wind Blows”, and “Descendants of the Sun”.
While the public wholly enjoyed her acting performances in romantic dramas, the critics did not highly regard the actress as she had not had any wins from one of the three prestigious awards (“Baeksang Arts Awards”, the “Blue Dragon Film Awards”, and the “Grand Bell Awards”).

Therefore, as a pale and feeble Moon Dong Eun on her way to revenge herself in “The Glory”, the actress blessed the audience with a side they had never seen before.
The “Best Actress” award was well-deserved. It also came at no better timing. Previously, Song Hye Kyo was embroiled in a series of rumors about a stagnant personal and professional life after Song Joong Ki announced a new life with his wife, Katy Louise Saunders. Hence, the award quickly turned the situation around. It was also one leap forward following the plunge in the popularity of her previous drama, “Now, We Are Breaking Up”.
Some rough estimation shows that Song Hye Kyo will reach a new hype after 10 years. In her 40s, the actress now has “The Glory” in her collection of high-achieving dramas. It sheds light on a rawer side of Song Hye Kyo’s acting on-screen through the depiction of a darker and heavier character. She went to new lengths for her role, such as dieting to lose weight and showing herself almost naked in the drama.
The actress herself felt regret for not trying out something different earlier. With this change as a stepping stone, Song Hye Kyo is more confident to step out of her comfort zone and take on new challenges. The audience is waiting for the actress’ next leap.
