Song Hye Kyo’s best friend from “Descendants of the Sun” went from rock star to actress by accident

Hyun Jyu Ni is focusing on her music career and rarely appears in drama projects.

Hardcore fans of “Descendants of the Sun” must know Ji Soo, co-worker-slash-best friend-slash-love consultant to Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo). Despite not looking the best onscreen, Ji Soo amassed a lot of love from viewers with her charm and humor.

Hyun Jyu Ni was behind the role Ji Soo. She is not a professionally trained actress and is originally a member of a rock band. When she was young, she was an official member of the Seol Youth Chamber Orchestra. She later debuted as the frontman of the girl rock band BellaMafia, which released the album “Overstep” in 2008. TV director Lee Jae Kyoo spotted her in the musical “Bandits” and cast her as a flutist in his television series “Beethoven Virus.” Despite her lack of proper acting training, Jyu Ni did so well that she was contacted by other producers and was given a role in “IRIS,” “Love 911,” and many more.

After “Descendants of the Sun,” Jyu Ni only appeared in 4 works in 7 years. Her latest appearance was in “It’s Beautiful Now” that aired last year. She is spending more time on her music career.

At 38, the rock star maintains a youthful appearance along with a chic bob haircut. Netizens are taken aback by her images onscreen and offscreen.
