An official sign that says “SM Entertainment Square” has been set up on a real intersection in the heart of Los Angeles, USA.
The sign for “SM Entertainment Square”, which writes in smaller letters: “Pioneer of the Korean Wave and Global K-Phenomenon, in honor of Soo Man Lee”, is recently placed in the center of Los Angeles.
This “SM Entertainment Square” refers to the intersection between 6th street and Oxford Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, and there, an official sign with the name was set up on April 28 (in local time). Below the name written in big letters is a message that introduces CEO and producer Lee Soo Man as a pioneer of the Korean Wave and global K-pop phenomenon.
Earlier in October 2020, the Los Angeles City Council named this intersection “SM Entertainment Square” to honor the achievements of SM and Lee Soo Man in the global music market. The agency and its CEO have led the K-pop craze, and contributed greatly to promote Korean culture in the city, the council said.
The name, which resembles the iconic Times Square, has a symbolic meaning, seeing that SM is the first Korean entertainment to receive such an honor.
Executive Lee Soo Man is the founder of SM, a representative Korean producer, and among the leaders of the global Kpop sensation. He is the first Korean to be selected in the US’s Variety 500 list for 5 consecutive years (2017-2021), the first Korean to win Asia Society’s 2016 Asia Game Changer Awards, and the first Korean to win Billboard 2020’s Billboard Impact List, which proves his global influence and status.
