Shoo of S.E.S, a famous idol in the past but now has to sell clothes at the market to make ends meet

25 years after SM’s 1st girl group S.E.S debuted, while Bada and Eugene are still doing well on their chosen path, the youngest member Shoo is living a hard life due to her gambling addiction.

Recently, as the news about Shoo’s apology letter to her fans surfaces, many netizens feel sad seeing such a talented person like her go to waste. Let’s take a look back at Shoo’s career and how it all went down.

Shoo’s real name is Yoo Soo Young. She debuted in the Korean music industry in 1997 with S.E.S, together with her members Bada and Eugene. After their contract with SM Entertainment expired in 2002, each member had chosen their own way to build their career.

Shoo’s career was supposed to be as peaceful as her members, but due to the stress from childrearing and the lost limelight, she was lured into gambling.

In 2018, Shoo’s lawsuit regarding her gambling debt has shaken the entire entertainment industry and her fans. She has had to pay an amount of 798 million won.

Unable to pay back the debt, Shoo’s problematic lifestyle has cost her 2 years of probation (which might give her a 6-month sentence if she commits a repeated offense during the 2-year probation) and 80 hours of community service.

Shoo has had to pawn off her house and sell all of her personal stuff to pay for the debt. Due to this scandal, Shoo’s name was heavily damaged and she was criticized. At the time, some media even reported that Shoo had thought of leaving this life.

To take responsibility for her wrongdoings, Shoo has been doing every work she can find. She has been working day and night at a side dish store, selling clothes at Dongdaemun market, and working at an acquaintance’s restaurant.

4 years after the scandalous lawsuit, on Jan 20th, 2022, Shoo suddenly appeared on the media with an apology letter uploaded on her personal SNS, admitting all of her wrongdoings in the past.

Shoo hopes she can make up for the wound that she had caused to people who supported her. In the same letter, she also expressed her wish of returning to the entertainment industry, hoping that the audience can welcome her back as a new person who is trying her best.

In the letter, Shoo talked about her hard times and expressed her gratitude toward her member Bada and Eugene who have always been by her side to cheer her up through the darkest days.

Shoo’s letter is receiving a lot of attention from fans. While some expressed their joy of seeing Shoo returning as a better person, some said that they are uncomfortable seeing someone with such a bad image returning to the entertainment industry.
