Big Bang Taeyang indirectly mentioned the hardship he faced due to the scandal caused by Seungri, a former member.
At a recent music listening party to commemorate the release of his new album, Taeyang said, “There seemed to be a series of situations that were not easy to overcome. I can’t explain to you in detail, but I was in the military at that time and it was very hard for me to communicate with the outside world. I felt very frustrated and exhausted”.
Taeyang did not mention any specific circumstance or reason. However, in 2018, when Taeyang was still serving in the military, Seungri was pointed out as one of the main culprits in the Burning Sun Scandal. Later, Seungri was imprisoned for one year and six months on a total of nine charges, such as including prostitution, arranging prostitution, embezzlement, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transaction Act, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, etc. He was released from prison earlier in February this year.
Since his release, Seungri has continued to cause controversies. It was recently revealed that he called his acquaintances and asked them to go clubbing with him. In addition, Seungri was also spotted enjoying a trip to Thailand with his rumored girlfriend Yoo Hye Won.
Recently, a video of him shaking a soju bottle excitedly at a drinking party with acquaintances was revealed, causing displeasure. Grace Tahir, famous as a co-founder of Mayapada Hospital in Indonesia and a medical entrepreneur, published a video of a drinking party with Seungri. In the released video, Seungri shows off stunts such as shaking a soju bottle and hitting the bottom of a soju bottle while smiling brightly, at the same time wearing sunglasses indoors.
Regarding this, Tahir explained, “Seungri is mentally and physically healthy. He also likes to talk, he said it’s not the time for an interview yet,” adding, “Seungri did not get drunk and barely touched alcohol. We asked him to show us the famous Korean whirlpool trick, so he kindly did it.”
Nevertheless, criticism grew as Seungri showed no “reflection” nor “repentance” at all.
In the meantime, Taeyang showed a magnanimous side, by covering up the shame of his former group member.
On the other hand, Taeyang released his new solo album, “Down to Earth” at 6 PM (KST) on April 25th. The album consists of 6 songs, including the title song “Seed”, in which Taeyang directly participated in writing the lyrics. Meanwhile, tracks featuring Jimin of BTS, Lisa of BLACKPINK, Beenzino, and Bryan Chase, are also included, raising expectations.
