Reasons Why There’s No Replacement for Lee Dohyun Among Actors in His Generation

Lee Dohyun enlisted in the Air Force Band after finishing JTBC’s “The Good Bad Mother” last August. Lee Dohyun, who portrayed a prosecutor with the intellect of a 7-year-old in “The Good Bad Mother,” once again showcased his talent through this drama.

Concerns arose due to his enlistment, as it meant his absence from the acting scene for a while. Before his enlistment, Lee Dohyun worked hard, and the results filled the gap during his military service.

He made a surprise appearance in Netflix’s original series “Sweet Home” Season 2, and is set to play a significant role in Season 3, scheduled to be released in the first half of this year.

Additionally, he showcased remarkable presence in TVING’s original series “Death’s Game” with just one episode. Portraying Jang Geonwoo, a character possessed by the spirit of Choi Jae (Seo Inguk), Lee Dohyun evoked deep emotions and immersion in a heart-wrenching romance.

Through his friendship with director Ha Byunghoon, formed during “18 Again,” Lee Dohyun, known for choosing “Death’s Game” as his last project before enlistment, left a remarkable impact despite his short appearance.

What’s even more astonishing is that Lee Dohyun managed a demanding shooting schedule before his enlistment, including “The Good Bad Mother,” “Sweet Home,” the movie “Exhuma,” and a special appearance in “Death’s Game.” His confidence in not being afraid of enlistment proved not to be just a boast. The time he devoted has yielded remarkable results.

Especially noteworthy is Lee Dohyun’s willingness to challenge himself in new territories. This is evident in the upcoming film “Exhuma” set to be released on February 22nd. “Exhuma” is an occult mystery movie depicting strange events that unfold among a feng shui master, a funeral director, and shamans after they receive a large sum of money to relocate a mysterious grave.

Lee Dohyun portrays Bonggil, who quits playing baseball due to military service. With a visual adorned with tattoos and an aura exuding mystery, Lee Dohyun will present a transformation never seen before.

Director Jang Jae-hyun expressed high expectations, “Lee Dohyun’s modern appearance and charisma matched Bonggil perfectly. Moreover, Lee Dohyun possesses tremendous ability to portray very difficult scenes purely with his acting skills.”

Whether Lee Dohyun can expand his territory once again on screen is also a matter of interest. An industry insider commented, “There is talk that there is no actor of his age who can replace Lee Dohyun. From OTT to the big screen during his military service, his activity range has expanded, making him a solid actor who can walk steadily even after discharge.”
