Hyunjin, whose full name is Hwang Hyunjin, was born on March 20, 2000. He is a member of famous K-pop boy group Stray Kids, and serves as a main dancer, rapper, and visual.

Hyunjin’s Basic Information
Hyunjin was born on March 20, 2000 in Seoul, South Korea. He grew up with a pet dog, Kkomi. As a kid, he visited Las Vegas, where he used his English name, Sam.
He graduated from SOPA (School of Performing Arts), and is currently enrolled in the Global Cyber University as a Practical English major.
Hyunjin is known to be a major donor, and was even appointed to The Promise’s honors club for having donated over 100 million won. He is also known to have participated in W Korea’s campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Hyunjin’s Career
Hyunjin was scouted by JYP Entertainment while in middle school and joined the company without any skill, training for 2 years.
In 2017, Hyunjin was officially revealed by JYP for his participation in the survival show “Stray Kids”. At the time, his roles included rapping and dancing.
In 2018, Hyunjin debuted as the main dancer of Stray Kids.
On February 16, 2019, Hyunjin became a fixed MC on Show! Music Core. During the same year, he joined KBS project group BBANGBBANGZ, alongside ASTRO’s Sanha, Golden Child’s Choi Bomin and AB6IX’s Lee Daehwi.
He has since released self-choreographed dances to Billie Eilish’s “when the party’s over” and Sam Tinnesz’s “Play With Fire”, as well as the self-composed songs “miss you” and “ice.cream” as part of the SKZ-RECORD series. He also dropped the solo song “Love Untold” in the album “SKZ-REPLAY” in 2022.
In 2023, Hyunjin became Global Brand Ambassador for luxury fashion brand Versace.
In the same year, he was featured on a remix single of Troye Sivan’s “Rush”.

Hyunjin is an only child, and is known to be allergic to cat fur. He once expressed that he wanted to be an interior designer if he was not in Stray Kids.
He often talks in his sleep and is the hardest to wake up among Stray Kids members.
Controversy
In 2021, Hyunjin was accused of school violence by an alleged former classmate, drawing intense criticism. At the time, JYP Entertainment stated that they would carefully verify the truth, leading to him going on a hiatus from February to June.
In the end, it was revealed that Hyunjin personally met the victim to apologize and posted a handwritten letter as apology. Meanwhile, many of the male idol’s former classmates spoke up in his defense, and his homeroom teacher even sent a message to the media, speaking in Hyunjin’s favor.
