Bang Chan’s Basic Information
Bang Chan was born in South Korea, but moved to Sydney, Australia at a young age. At the age of 13, he passed an audition for JYP Entertainment and moved back to Korea to train, officially joining JYP in 2011. He ended up training for 7 years, and went by “Chris” during his trainee period.
In late 2016, Bang Chan assumed the stage name CB97 and formed the hip-hop crew 3RACHA with trainees Han Jisung (“J.One”) and Seo Changbin (“SPEARB”).
Bang Chan’s Career
In 2017, Bang Chan was officially revealed for his participation in the survival show “Stray Kids”. At the time, his roles include producing, vocalist, rapping, and dancing, on top of being the leader.
In 2018, Bang Chan debuted as the leader and producer of Stray Kids.
He has since released the self composed song “i hate to admit” as part of the SKZ-RECORD series and the original solo song “Connected” in the album “SKZ-REPLAY”.
Recently, he also released the song “Eternity” as part of the group’s unofficial discography in the SKZ-RECORD webseries.
Due to his role as the producer, Bang Chan was named as a regular member of KOMCA – the Korean Music Copyright Association.

Bang Chan has one younger sister named Hannah and a younger brother named Lucas. He speaks English, Korean, Japanese, and a bit of Chinese, and can play the guitar and the piano.
Prior to debuting, Bang Chan took dance classes including ballet and modern dance, and also enjoyed playing sports, even winning various swimming awards.
He used to train with GOT7, TWICE, and DAY6.
Controversy
Bang Chan previously faced criticism due to his remarks about how greeting is no longer a basic manner in K-pop. In particular, the male idol implied that a group ignored to greet him at KBS’s 2023 Music Bank in Paris event, sending netizens on a “witch hunt” as they speculated on the idols that failed to greet Bang Chan.
In the end, many idols got falsely accused, and Bang Chan got criticized. In the end, the male idol released an apology for his remark and emphasized that he “did not intend to single out any specific artist.”
