Professor Park Ji Sun, “The villain played by Kim Eui Sung in ‘Train to Busan’ could have been defeated with these words”

Park Ji Sun mentioned the “magic words” that could have eliminated the villain played by Kim Eui Sung in “Train to Busan”.

The broadcast of SBS’s “Ji Sun’s Cinemind 2” on April 30th analyzed Korea’s first zombie blockbuster “Train to Busan” with webtoon artist Joo Ho Min.

“Train to Busan” tells about people on a KTX train struggling to survive when an unidentified virus spread across the country. On the show, Professor Park analyzed the selfishness and crowd psychology of people from a socio-psychological perspective through various characters in the zombie outbreak, providing a new perspective on the zombie movie. Among them, the character that drew Professor Park’s attention was Yong Seok (Kim Eui Sung).

Professor Park Ji Sun stated that they could have stopped the rampage that started with the villain Yong Seok with only three people. According to the Professor’s explanation, if each of the three asked questions, such as “Who are you?”, “Why should we follow your orders?”, and “What evidence do you have to prove that you’re right?”, other people might think, “Hold on. Why am I listening to this guy”, providing an opportunity for a turnaround.

In addition, “Ji Sun’s Cinemind 2” emphasized the zombie story of “Train to Busan”. Webtoonist Joo Ho Min appeared as a guest in this section to explain the characteristics of the zombies in “Train to Busan”. Joo Ho Min revealed that “Train to Busan” zombies follow the trends of the latest zombies in K-movies/dramas, saying “Unlike ordinary zombies, these ones can run faster. They have fast infection speed and are more violent.”

The show also discussed the lines and dialogues in the movie. Professor Park Ji Sun pointed out the line where Yong Seok tells Su An (Kim Su An), the daughter of Seok Woo (Gong Yoo), “If you don’t study hard, you’ll end up like that homeless guy”, reveals Yong Seok’s self-centered personality. Yong Seok’s next line, “Looks like your mom was not well-educated”, was said to be evidence of this character’s maliciousness.

Interestingly, Yong Seok, portrayed as a selfish character, has actually been reevaluated after the COVID-19 pandemic. His behavior of isolating infected individuals is now viewed as a positive and effective way. Actor Kim Eui Sung, who played Yong Seok, said “When ‘Train to Busan’ was released, Yong Seok’s actions seemed selfish, but now, after experiencing the pandemic, I find it interesting to re-examine his action”, explaining why people should watch the movie again after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, “Ji Sun’s Cinemind 2” interviewed a KTX train captain and a train staff to know the safest place to hide on the train if a similar situation ever occurs. Both of them chose the “toilet”, adding that zombies can’t open the door.

Meanwhile, “Ji Sun’s Cinemind 2” will analyze “Billie Elliot” with musical actor Kim Ho Young in its next broadcast.
